Samsung Electronics P3 wafer factory will start construction next month and will adopt a large number of EUV production

According to the Korean media the elec, Samsung's P3 Fab in pyongsar will start installing equipment in May and continue until July, one month ahead of the original schedule. The entire Fab will be completed in the second half of 2022.

Samsung pingze P3 wafer factory began construction in 2020, covering an area of 700000 square meters. It will become the largest wafer factory in the world, 1.7 times that of Samsung P2 wafer factory. Of course, the investment of the factory will also be quite large. They plan to invest at least 30trillion yuan and at most 50trillion won in the next few years, that is, at least 24billion US dollars and at most 40billion US dollars.

The report stressed that the P3 chip factory built by Samsung in pingze city is expected to be a chip factory that produces both memory and logic chips. Among them, the latest investment and production will be NAND flash memory, followed by DRAM, and the last upper limit will be the chip manufacturing and OEM production line using 3-nanometer process technology. Because Samsung pingze P3 chip factory will take the lead in producing NAND flash memory, it means that the installation of plant equipment will start from the production equipment of NAND flash memory, and the installation of the production equipment will start from the first week of May 2022.

In addition, it is worth noting that this large chip factory of Samsung pingze will use a large number of extreme ultraviolet exposure devices (EUV) for production. Among them, in the production line of NAND flash memory, EUV will be used to produce the 7th generation of 176 layer stack v-nand flash memory, and EUV will also be required to produce in the production line of 3nm process technology for chip OEM and production.
